Seeking a Data Governance Specialist for a contract opportunity in Columbus, Ohio. Accountable for partnering with business stakeholders, including data owners and stewards, to define, govern, and maintain enterprise data glossary terms and key metrics. Advances business-led, governance-supported data practices that ensure data is trusted, consistently defined, and effectively used across the organization.
Position Overview
- Microsoft Purview is the governance tool currently in use, but deep Purview expertise is not required. Experience with an equivalent governance tool would be sufficient.
- This is a fully onsite role, requiring attendance 5 days per week.
Key Projects
- The team is heavily involved in an ERP migration initiative.
- Significant focus on data-related work, including:
- Data migration
- Data cleansing
- Data governance
Technical Environment
- Data work is being performed in Microsoft Fabric.
- Candidates with Microsoft Fabric experience will have a strong advantage.
- Governance experience is considered a plus.
Ideal Candidate
- Should have a blend of business and technical knowledge.
- As the team models data within Fabric, some technical expertise is important.
- Preferred candidates will understand:
- Database concepts
- Data modeling
- How databases are structured and created
Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or related data roles
- Strong understanding of data governance concepts, data quality practices, and meta data management
- Experience partnering with business stakeholders to define and manage data
- Familiarity with data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview or similar platforms preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to clearly document and explain data concepts
- The ability to read and write small letters and numbers; the ability to make arithmetic calculations; and the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- The successful completion of a ninety (90) day orientation period
- The execution of an Employment Agreement
- This role does not require a highly experienced data governance specialist. A solid business analyst with exposure to data governance concepts can be successful
- The individual should be motivated, eager to learn, and interested in growing their career
- Strong communication skills and self-driven work ethic are required
- This role will operate under the guidance of our Data Governance Senior Product Manager
Operational requirements:
- Must be located in the Columbus, Ohio area
- Must be willing to work in-office 5 days per week
- Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship. Client will not sponsor
- Interviews will be conducted in person at Columbus office
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Leads archive and retention policy efforts, advances data sensitivity classification, and ensures data is secured appropriately based on its classification and use.
- Acts as a role model for data literacy and stewardship, improving data trust and consistency while enabling client to operate as a data-driven organization and serving as a bridge between business and technology.
- Partners with business stakeholders to define, approve, and maintain data glossary terms and key metrics
- Establishes and maintains business glossaries, data definitions, data dictionary, and metadata within governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview)
- Supports and advances enterprise data governance standards, policies, and best practices
- Defines and reinforces data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across business domains
- Performs data profiling and supports data quality initiatives, including identifying issues and tracking remediation activities
- Contributes to the development and execution of data archive and retention policies
- Advances data sensitivity classification and supports appropriate data security practices
- Facilitates governance working sessions and cross-functional alignment discussions
- Ensures governance standards and definitions are consistently applied across reporting, analytics, and operational use cases
- Identifies opportunities to improve data trust, usability, and consistency across systems and teams
- Maintains a clear understanding of client’s goals and ensures adherence to company policies, standards, and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Data Governance Senior Product Manager or Director of Enterprise Data and Architecture
