Columbus, Ohio client seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer contractor to join their Mainframe Engineering team. This role will contribute to major project initiatives, collaborating closely with engineering peers, product teams, and business partners to deliver high‑quality, scalable solutions.
 

• Work location: Columbus, OH preferred, possibly remote (NO PST)
• M-F work hours
• There will also be a need to support on-call both business hours and off-hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Most often use agile techniques and are a part of a larger, cross-functional team.
• Design, develop, test, and implement mainframe-based solutions using COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL.
• Analyze system requirements and translate them into high‑quality technical deliverables.
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance existing code within a high‑availability mainframe environment.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams to ensure alignment on project goals and technical approaches.

Required Skills & Experience

• The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2 and JCL plus the ability to grasp an understanding of complex enterprise environments. 
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with:
  • COBOL
  • DB2
  • CICS
  • JCL
• Strong understanding of Agile SDLC methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within complex, large-scale mainframe environments.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Azure or AWS cloud environments.
• Background working in both team-driven and individual contributor roles.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and process documentation.
