This is the first in a two-part Girl Develop It teaching workshop. It is recommended but not required that you attend both workshops.

In Part One of this series, one of our veteran teachers, Andrea Jessup, will present on all the why’s and wherefore’s one should teach Girl Develop It courses and workshops. Andrea will cover the gamut of requirements for becoming a teacher and how to teach/create class slides/prep for class/work with attendees and TAs/etc.

Girl Develop It Columbus currently offers the following workshops throughout the year:

• Introduction to HTML/CSS

• Intermediate HTML/CSS

• Introduction to JavaScript

• Introduction to Web Accessibility

• Introduction to Web Concepts

• Introduction to Git/Github

We are interested in expanding our course list for 2017, so if you are interested in teaching courses on other subjects, this workshop is still for you! You can become qualified to teach Girl Develop It courses by meeting the following requirements:

• Have knowledge of the subject matter

• Be a Teaching Assistant for at least two courses

• Do a brief mock teaching session with GDI leadership (Part Two of this workshop! see below for more information)

Lunch will be provided (we will have gluten-free and vegetarian options for those with dietary restrictions. If you have any other dietary needs, please email Parker at lp@parkerdyer.com in advance).

Please note, if you are interested in teaching but have not yet met the requirements (i.e. TA’d at least two classes), you are still welcome to attend this workshop.

Part Two will give attendees the opportunity to give a short mock teaching presentation (3-5 slides — you can find materials here and more here) to our illustrious leadership to show you know your materials, understand the requirements of teaching, and are prepared to teach a class. This workshop will take place on Saturday, December 3 from 1:00-3:00pm, at Mutually Human. Please RSVP to Part Two here
