This class will meet on Tuesdays for 4 weeks from 6:30 – 8:30PM, starting February 27 (with the following classes on March 6, 13, and 20).

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own site and want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program, but want to start small? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is for you!

In this course, we’ll walk you through the basics of both HTML and CSS and help you use them to create a simple website

We will begin Tuesday, February 27 from 6:30-8:30PM and continue to meet from 6:30 – 8:30PM on the following days: March 6, March 13, and March 20. (Due to the restrictions of Meetup’s registration, we can’t schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.

This class will be co-taught by Andrea Jessup and Bindu Verma.

What To Expect

In this class we’ll walk you through the basics of both HTML and CSS, help you use them to create a simple website, and start you on the path to becoming a web developer. Concepts will be reinforced through hands on, in-class exercises.

What To Bring

• Students are asked to bring their personal laptops to use if they have one. (Sometimes work laptops have limitations.) If you do not have access to a laptop please contact us (columbus@girldevelopit.com) before the first class; we may be able to provide a loaner laptop for you to use during class.

• A modern browser (Google Chrome is preferred).

• Sublime Text (http://www.sublimetext.com (http://www.sublimetext.com/)), a text-editor that is free and available for both Mac and PC.

Scholarships

We are able to offer two scholarships for this course. If you would like to attend this class but are unable to due to financial reasons, you can apply for a scholarship here ( http://bit.ly/GDIC-Scholarships ). The deadline for scholarship applications for this class is Monday, February 12. Applicants will be informed by Friday, February 16 whether or not they have been granted a scholarship. Scholarship students are guaranteed a seat in the class, even if the Meetup event is full.

Scholarship requirements:

• You are a member of the Girl Develop It Columbus Meetup group ( http://www.meetup.com/girldevelopitcbus ).

• You are able to attend at least 3 of the 4 classes.

Refund Policy

Your payment of $96 guarantees your seat in the entire course. Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there’s an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.

Wait list

Meetup has removed wait list functionality for paid events. In the event that this Meetup sells out, there will be no wait list.

Our program and curriculum are geared toward adults over the age of 18; at this time we do not accept minors as students in our courses and workshops.
