This class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2 weeks, starting October 17 (with the following classes on October 19, 24, and 26).
Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own site and want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program, but want to start small? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is for you!
In this course, we’ll walk you through the basics of both HTML and CSS and help you use them to create a simple website.
We will begin Tuesday, October 17 from 6:30-8:30 PM and continue to meet for the following days: Thursday October 19, Tuesday October 24, and Thursday October 26. (Due to the restrictions of Meetup’s registration, we can’t schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.)
This class will be co-taught by Andrea Jessup and Bindu Verma.
What To Expect
In this class we’ll walk you through the basics of both HTML and CSS, help you use them to create a simple website, and start you on the path to becoming a web developer. Concepts will be reinforced through hands on, in-class exercises.
What To Bring
• Students are asked to bring their personal laptops to use if they have one. (Sometimes work laptops have limitations.) If you do not have access to a laptop please contact us before the first class; we may be able to provide a loaner laptop for you to use during class.
• A modern browser (Google Chrome is preferred).
• Sublime Text, a text-editor that is free and available for both Mac and PC.
We are able to offer two scholarships for this course. If you would like to attend this class but are unable to due to financial reasons, you can apply for a scholarship here. The deadline for scholarship applications for this class is Monday, October 9. Applicants will be informed by Friday, October 13 whether or not they have been granted a scholarship. Scholarship students are guaranteed a seat in the class, even if the Meetup event is full.
You are a member of the Girl Develop It Columbus Meetup group (www.meetup.com/girldevelopitcbus).
You are able to attend at least 3 of the 4 classes.
If you have questions about scholarships or any of the above, please contact Parker (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Your payment of $80 guarantees your seat in the entire course. Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there’s an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.
Meetup has removed wait list functionality for paid events. In the event that this Meetup sells out, there will be no wait list.
Our program and curriculum are geared toward adults over the age of 18; at this time we do not accept minors as students in our courses and workshops.
Please note, registration for this workshop will close 48 hours before the event, so if you’re interested in attending, be sure to sign up before Sunday, October 15!
Girl Develop It welcomes all genders and identities to our classroom. By entering this group, all community members agree to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct.
