Client in Neenah, WI has an onsite contract opportunity for a Field Technician to serve as the eyes and hands in the field for radiology IT operations. This hybrid role combines on-site field support, Level 2 troubleshooting, and basic networking tasks to maintain the stability and performance of systems critical to radiology workflows. You will support imaging center users directly while coordinating with central IT teams to maintain, optimize, and expand infrastructure.
Travel occurs a couple times per month, not daily. They will use their personal car for travel & mileage reimbursed.
- Experience Level: 1-2 years is sufficient; extensive experience not required due to training.
Technical Skills:
- Basic hardware skills (e.g., assembling computers) desired.
- Role is primarily desktop support technician, not help desk.
Must have Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and relationship-building with doctors are more valuable than deep technical expertise.
- High attention to detail, proactive follow-up, and strong organization.
- Flexibility: No specific radiology experience required.
Job Responsibilities and Environment
- Primary Duties:
- Image and test new desktops for newly hired radiologists.
- Package and ship equipment to doctors.
- Follow up to ensure proper setup and provide support.
- On-site Support:
- Travel to various sites, typically 1-1.5 hours apart.
- Travel occurs a couple of times per month, not daily.
- Team Structure:
- Work alongside an existing technician from an MSP in the Fox Valley area.
- Operate as one team with shared responsibilities (no distinction).
- Escalation Path: Escalate unresolved issues to Level 2 support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site technical support for radiology imaging centers, addressing hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot workstations, imaging devices, printers, and radiology-specific software including PACS, RIS, PowerScribe, and EPIC.
- Serve as an extension of centralized L2 support by executing field-based troubleshooting, installations, and escalations.
- Perform basic networking tasks, including cable testing, port tracing, and light configuration of switches and firewalls.
- Assist with the racking, unracking, and physical setup of IT equipment in data centers, telecom rooms, and office environments.
- Monitor system performance on-site, identify anomalies, escalate issues as needed, and thoroughly document resolutions.
- Assist with technology rollouts, imaging center onboarding, equipment refreshes, and site surveys.
- Maintain accurate local inventory of IT equipment, accessories, and spares.
- Collaborate with IT teams to improve support processes and infrastructure reliability based on field insights and user feedback.
- Deliver high-quality support with urgency and empathy, recognizing the impact IT has on clinical care and patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in desktop support (Windows OS, workstation/peripheral troubleshooting).
- Working knowledge of radiology systems and workflows is highly desirable.
- Experience performing basic switch/router configuration and firewall troubleshooting.
- Comfortable handling physical IT setup tasks and equipment installations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and documentation practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to support both clinical and technical users.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (travel to multiple sites required).
- Ability to lift and transport equipment up to 40 lbs.
